Why it matters
A drive-by sees the sign; the code turns the drive-by into a walk-through on their phone at the kerb. Flyers left after a showing do the same for the buyer comparing houses that evening.
Step by step
- 1Build the destination: video, facts, contact, on a page that loads fast on a phone.
- 2Generate the code with a tracking parameter; use a redirect link you control.
- 3Print it at least four centimetres on a flyer and twenty on a sign rider, dark on light.
- 4Test it from the kerb, in daylight and at dusk.
- 5After the sale, point the redirect at your site or a 'sold' page.
What goes wrong
- Light-grey codes on coloured backgrounds that do not scan.
- A code printed directly to a listing URL that dies when the listing sells.
- No tracking, so you never learn which sign or flyer works.
The judgement call
One redirect link per listing, one printed code, one tracked destination. It is the cheapest way to make print do what video does.
Questions
Do people really scan sign riders?
Enough that it is worth the rider. Track it and you will know within a month.
Can the code go on the yard sign itself?
On a rider — large, dark on white, at eye height from the kerb.
